1.9.25 The Perspective Shift // What story are you reinforcing?

Ryann Nicole The Perspective Shift

Hey There, I'm Ryann Nicole.

I’m a recovered binge eater who changed the story from something that happened to me to something that happened for me. Now, I’m a licensed therapist teaching you to do the same.

My mission? To help you ditch food stress and live your life with mental peace and freedom every single day!

The Perspective Shift

Welcome to The Perspective Shift! A weekly newsletter by Ryann Nicole designed to help you see food, your body, and healthy living in a whole new light.

What story are you reinforcing?

I went to a vision board-making class last night with some moms.

It was way later than I usually do things, and I didn’t know any of the moms. To be honest, I DIND’T WANT TO GO.

I tried to talk myself out of it at least 10 times.
“I’m too tired.”
“It’s too late.”
“I’ll just skip it—no one will even notice.”

It wasn’t that I didn’t want to be there—it was that going to something late at night (well, late for me 😅) and not knowing anyone felt so uncomfortable.

But then I asked myself: If I cancel, what story am I reinforcing?
That I can’t handle discomfort.

And, well, I didn’t want to reinforce that story. So I went. Yay, me! 🎉

And you know what? I had a good time. It was great. And I’m so happy I went!

And that got me thinking…

Something To Think About

Every time we tell ourselves a story, we strengthen it.

When we avoid, cancel, or retreat, we tell the story that we’re not capable, strong, or brave enough to handle hard things. And that story can keep us stuck.

But we can create new stories.

Each time we choose discomfort over safety or courage over fear, we tell ourselves, I’m capable.

Each time we show up, even when it’s hard, we write a new narrative: I can do hard things, and I’ll be okay.

The more we practice, the stronger those new stories become.

Something To Ask Yourself

What story are you telling yourself that’s keeping you stuck?

  • Is it the belief that you can’t trust yourself around certain foods?
  • That you’re not capable of making big life changes?
  • That you’re “too much” or “not enough”?

What would it feel like to rewrite that story, one small action at a time?

Something To Try

This week, challenge yourself to rewrite a story that’s been holding you back.

  1. Identify one thing you’ve been avoiding because it feels uncomfortable.
  2. Commit to showing up anyway, even if it’s messy or imperfect.
  3. Afterward, reflect: What story are you reinforcing by taking this step?

For example:

  • If you’ve been avoiding a social event, try going for 30 minutes and telling yourself, I can show up and survive discomfort.
  • If you’ve been afraid to bring certain foods into the house, try buying just one small portion and reminding yourself, I’m learning to trust myself.

You don’t have to change the whole story today. You just need to take one step in a new direction.

Let’s keep rewriting these stories, one small, brave moment at a time.

I’m so proud of you for showing up—for this email, for yourself, for the life you’re creating.

Cheering you on, always.

Ry
