Hey There, I'm Ryann Nicole.

I’m a recovered binge eater who changed the story from something that happened to me to something that happened for me. Now, I’m a licensed therapist teaching you to do the same.

My mission? To help you ditch food stress and live your life with mental peace and freedom every single day!

Episode Transcript

Hey, it’s Ryann, your host from the Food Freedom Lab. Today, let’s dive into the essence of lasting change and achieving your happy weight. It’s not about rigid diets or punishment; it’s about identity change. So, let’s shift the focus from “What do I need to do?” to “Who do I want to become?”

Understanding Change as a Pyramid

The journey to lasting change unfolds like a pyramid. It begins with awareness — acknowledging that current approaches aren’t working. Then, you step into willingness, being open-minded to new ways. Embracing discomfort follows, as change is inherently uncomfortable. This phase involves letting go of old habits that no longer serve you.

The Reward: Liking Who You’re Becoming

As you push through discomfort, you reach the reward phase. This isn’t just about reaching a specific weight; it’s about liking the person you’re becoming. The transformation goes beyond numbers; it’s about joy, presence, and living a fulfilling life. You’re not just chasing a lower weight; you’re becoming a new and improved version of yourself.

Change Happens from Within

The key is not to focus on what you need to do externally but to shift your identity. It’s about answering the question: Who do I want to become? If weight loss is a goal, ask yourself why. Often, it’s tied to feelings like confidence or happiness. Focus on these feelings and step into the pyramid of change.

Practical Steps

  1. List Who You Want to Become: Outline the person you want to become. Whether it’s someone who nourishes their body, prioritizes mental health, or loves movement, list those characteristics.
  2. Align Actions with Your Higher-Level Self: Every decision you make, ask yourself if your higher-level self would do it. This aligns your actions with the person you aspire to be.
  3. Become a Normal Eater: If your goal is to be a normal eater, start thinking like one. For example, a normal eater wouldn’t shame themselves for enjoying a cookie. Act accordingly and embrace this identity.

Daily Affirmation

This week, keep asking yourself, “How can I start showing up as the person I want to be today?” Instead of waiting for a specific weight, start living the life you envision now.

Lasting change stems from identity change. Shift the focus from external actions to internal transformation. Become the person you aspire to be, embracing discomfort and enjoying the reward of liking who you’re becoming. Remember, the journey isn’t about a number on the scale; it’s about living a fulfilling and joyful life.
