Hey, it’s Ryann from the Food Freedom Lab. Are you stuck in a scarcity mindset when it comes to peanut butter? Let’s chat about breaking free from this mindset and enjoying peanut butter without feeling out of control.
I’m a peanut butter lover, especially the Everything Butter by Fix and Fog. It’s my kryptonite—crunchy, salty, and downright incredible. But it hasn’t always been smooth sailing with peanut butter. Let me share what helped me relax around it so you can too.
Peanut butter is a highly palatable but not very filling food. I avoid calorie counting because it creates unrealistic expectations. If you’re feeling crazy around peanut butter, it might be because you’re expecting it to fill you up when, in reality, it might not.
Diving into real, filling, and nourishing meals is crucial. Often, the problem starts when we fear these meals and opt for snacky options throughout the day. Peanut butter on toast might not cut it if your body is signaling it needs a substantial, real meal.
If peanut butter makes you feel out of control, detach from calorie expectations. Ask yourself if you’re hungry for a small snack or a full meal. Adjust your expectations and be okay with having multiple spoonfuls if that’s what your body needs.
Consider where your head is when eating peanut butter. If judgment or distraction is present, it’s like your mind is still on a diet, even if you’re eating. It’s essential to be present with your food. If you’re on a peanut butter honeymoon, it’s normal, and it will wear off.
Finally, evaluate your mindset around peanut butter’s abundance. Do you allow yourself to have it regularly, or is there a lingering scarcity mindset? Changing these expectations can help you feel more at ease around peanut butter.
You can be okay around peanut butter by changing your expectations and understanding your body’s needs. Get curious, pay attention, and ditch the calorie-focused mindset.
